Project description

The City of Waukegan retained Baxter & Woodman/Boller to complete an $8.8 million upgrade at its 20 MGD Lake Michigan surface water treatment plant. This involved the complete reconstruction of 10 gravity filters, including:
  • New electrically-actuated inlet gates
  • New backwash troughs
  • New sand and anthracite filter media
  • Replacement of old surface wash system with new airwash system
  • New underdrain system
  • New backwash supply and bashwash waste valves and electrically-actuated valves
It also involved the complete replacement of chemical treatment equipment, including:
  • New alum chemical storage tanks, day tank, transfer pump, four new peristaltic pumps, and controls
  • New polymer chemical feed skid
  • New fluoride chemical storage tanks, day tank, transfer pump, two new peristaltic pumps, and controls
