The City of Waukegan retained Baxter & Woodman/Boller to complete an $8.8 million upgrade at its 20 MGD Lake Michigan surface water treatment plant. This involved the complete reconstruction of 10 gravity filters, including:
New electrically-actuated inlet gates
New backwash troughs
New sand and anthracite filter media
Replacement of old surface wash system with new airwash system
New underdrain system
New backwash supply and bashwash waste valves and electrically-actuated valves
It also involved the complete replacement of chemical treatment equipment, including:
New alum chemical storage tanks, day tank, transfer pump, four new peristaltic pumps, and controls
New polymer chemical feed skid
New fluoride chemical storage tanks, day tank, transfer pump, two new peristaltic pumps, and controls
